Whenever I’m presenting my portfolio I like to throw in a shot that is not about work. I make it a good photograph that shows off my talents and skills, but it’s not a photograph of building or space. I might include a sunset shot, a detail shot of some flowers or a sculpture. I try to keep it within my core competencies but to show another dimension of my personality.
The point is to give people an opportunity to get a break from the salesy presentation, take a breath, sit back and talk about things that are not all business all the time. This is important because in the creative fields because we want people to know they’re working with a person with hopes and dreams, achievements and frustrations. We have to remember and remind our clients that we work to live, we do not live to work.
