This home was designed for large parties. We had to show the entertainment aspects of the design as well as the design elements of the porch, tile around the pool and large passage into the interior of the home. This was best achieved at sunset. I used available light to capture the ambiance of the scene. (I prefer to use available light whenever possible.)

Nothing about this project was small. The scale of the foreground seating space required the use of a very wide angle lens. We used a large serving tray filled with party snacks and multiple bottles of wine to fill the expanse of the glass table top. I opened the door to the pool house to avoid creating a feeling of restriction to the image. The extra detail there was the final element that balanced the shot.

The lighting of the scene, the energy of the sconce lights and warmth of the interior of the home is what keeps the styling of the table and chair from capturing and retaining the viewer’s attention despite its obvious strength.
