I love photographing architecture at dawn. The air is clear and the light, crisp. I shot this elevation at dawn because the morning light brought out the detail and opened up the shadows.

When I first saw this building during my preproduction tour I realized this east north-east elevation was the glory shot. It shows the scale of the project and the design concept best.

I love photographing architecture at dawn. The air is clean because the smog and atmospheric haze of the days has settled out over night this causes the light to be crisp. There is significantly less traffic this early in the day so it’s possible to capture the view we need absent any distracting or confusing elements.

I shot this just as the sun was breaking the horizon because I wanted the light to enhance the various planes of the building without becoming so contrasty that the shadows turned into black holes. The colorful textured sky was a bonus.
