Last night I attended my first meeting of the San Francisco chapter of ASMP. I got the chance to meet several other architectural photographers, Steve Whitaker, Nathaniel Bennett and Treve Johnson, I had met Treve before at an NKBA event and spoken with Steve over the telephone several times. It’s nice to be able to put a face on my colleagues.

I was surprised to learn that there are only 80 General Members of the chapter and several hundred associate members. I feel honored to know that I was so enthusiastically accepted as a general member upon my application.

I was also surprised to learn that both Ansel Adams and Margaret Bourke-White were members of the San Francisco chapter of ASMP knowing that such renowned and prestigious photographers have been members of this society really gives me a feeling of connection to history.

Regardless, we spoke of the general direction of the chapter and many good ideas were presented to the board. The board revealed some very exciting plans for the near term future, as well. I am confident that ASMP is moving in a direction that will benefit me as a photographer a small business owner and provide my clients with the benefits of an even greater degree of professionalism and expertise when working with me.

Because in the twenty-first century there’s more to photography than just taking pictures.
