Spring Issue of Nesting Newbies

The spring issue of Nesting Newbies is out and it looks really good.

I shot several interiors and all the food photographs that were shot in the studio. I also did image retouching and optimization for the magazine as well. There are only a few images in the last quarter of the magazine that I didn’t have something to do with.

I posted the fifty pages that include my images to my portfolio gallery along with the source images. Please take a look if you get the chance and let me know what you think.

One Door Has Closed

I’m very sorry to announce that my agreement to collaborate with Nesting Newbies as Director of Photography didn’t work out. It’s a shame, but sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want them to.

This will allow me to focus more of my time and talents towards my responsibilities as ASID CA Peninsula Industry Partner Director in the coming year.

So, although one door has closed yet another has opened.

I’ve been shooting for Nesting Newbies for the past few months and one article was just picked up by Lila B. another on-line publication leading the charge into the “Generation Y” future.

Change is here, you can adapt and benefit or be left behind, because we work in a different world than it we did only two years ago.

Joseph Hittinger Published using High Dynamic Range Photographs

Joe Hittinger had a project I shot for him published in Palo Alto Online.

It was a great project that I shot using the High Dynamic Range Imaging technique that is making such a hit with all my clients. I like it because I can capture the essence of my clients design with a degree of fidelity to their creative vision never before possible. And since the supplemental lighting I need is either minimized or in most cases unnecessary we no longer have to struggle with reflections and light stands and cables, instead we can focus all of our energies on the creative aspects of styling and composition.

Nesting Newbies DIFFA Dining by Design

I am proud to announce the publication of the DIFFA (Design Industry Foundation Fight Aids) Dining by Design event at the San Francisco Design Center by Nesting Newbies magazine.

I am very pleased and proud to find that the image I created for Joseph Hittinger of Joseph Hittinger Designs is featured on the cover of the fall issue of ASID CA Peninsula Design Chronicles.

It really is a wonderful image and I can see why Joe won the Silver for Kitchens with it. And yes, this is an HDRI photograph.

Updated Home Page to Include Recent Publications

Recently there was a flurry of publications of my client’s projects.

Marie Chan, of Inter-Space Design was featured on the cover of Bay Area Spaces Magazine in September of 2009. The editor chose a residential bathroom that I had shot a few months ago using the High Dynamic Range Imaging technique that is proving to be such an effective tool for captureing the character and subtle emotional qualities of the spaces I shoot.

And then Bob Miller, of Miller Design Company was featured both on the cover of Bay Area Spaces Magazine in October of 2009 and as a feature story in the magazine’s “On the Town” Section.

I am very happy to see my clients on the cover of the magazine and feel great satisfaction and professional pride knowing they are getting the recognition they deserve. I’m glad I could play some small part in helping them attain this achievement.

I have added sample slides of these two magazine covers to the slide show featured on my home page. The slide show was originally intended to only feature projects that have won design awards, but editorial publication – especially on the cover – is itself quite an achievement.

I am very pleased to announce that not only is Miller Design Company featured in Bay Area Spaces Magazine, as noted previously but one of my photographs from the project is featured on the cover as well.

I am so proud that my photographs have been featured on the cover of Bay Area spaces magazine for two consecutive months. Not only is it a feather in my cap, but a great honor for my clients to have their work displayed so prominently.

I am proud to announce that this photograph I created for Marie Chan of Inter-Space Design has been featured on the September cover of Bay Area Spaces Magazine.

Marie was a joy to work with, her energy and optimistic attitude really shows in her designs. We had a great time collaborating to make her work look the best it can be.

I used the High Dynamic Range Imaging process to shoot this and the shots of the kitchen and breakfast nook on this project. You can see the result very effectively captures the essence of the design as Marie intended it to be. Many problems associated shooting in small spaces: scale of lighting, contrast, and viewing angle are resolved using the HDRI technique because I work with the available light and nothing else. It can be a little tricky getting the light fixtures to represent properly but that’s where my talent, skill and experience come into play.
