Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with the current board of the ASID CA Peninsula chapter at the continuity meeting at AS Design in Los Gatos. This was the beginning of the hand off from the leadership of Marie Chan to that of Carol Spence Carr.

I’m looking forward to working with the chapter and hope I am ready for the challenges I will be assigned as my duties. The upcoming board, on which I sit as the Industry Partner Director is meeting on Monday.

2010 ASID CA Designers Challenge Fashion Show Winner

Last night was the 2010 Designers Challenge Fashion show for the CA Peninsula chapter of ASID. It was a lot of fun and I was very impressed by the high quality of the designs. I guess that’s what happens when you put a bunch of highly talented designers together on a project with instructions to “Be Creative.”

An Award of Merit from the IESNA

2009 IESNA Award of Merit High Dynamic Range Imaging

2009 IESNA Award of Merit High Dynamic Range Imaging

I am proud to say that yet another client of mine, OMM Consulting has won an Award of Merit from the Golden Gate Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) for 2009 using the images I created. This has been a very good year for my clients in regard to design competitions.

OMM Consulting is an electrical engineering firm specializing in lighting design. The photographs for this competition were required to be shot using existing light with no supplemental lighting of any kind. My twenty-three years of experience working with challenging lighting situations, combined with my mastery of High Dynamic Range Imaging techniques resulted in capturing the  spaces and structure in it true glory – as the designers envisioned it.

Maintaining fidelity to the designers vision is what helped them win the award, of course they did an award winning job of lighting the project. You can review all of the images from this award submission by following this link.

Expanding My Portfolio

Over the past few days I have been adding more images from my archive to my portfolio galleries. It’s been quite fun reviewing these images from the past and I am pleased with how my style has evolved through the years.

There are now well over four thousand images in my portfolio galleries displaying images from 1992 through today. These images provide a very good sampling of my talents and skills photographing residential, commercial, institutional, hospitality, retail, education, civic, healthcare and justice interior design and architecture.

I even included the last photograph I took as an “amateur” photographer way back in February of 1992, just a few weeks before I made the final jump to being a full time professional architectural photographer on March 13, 1992. It’s a wonderful shot of the Temple Hoyne Buell Theater in Denver, CO. I was pleased with the shot then and I am still proud to include it in my primary portfolios to this day. I even sold the image to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts which is why I have enclosed the amateur above in quotes.

Take a look at the galleries. If you want to see if I have the talent skill and experience to shoot your project, I’m sure you’ll find what you are looking for. And remember it is a searchable database.

Architecture and Interior Design Awards Portfolio

Yesterday I assembled a portfolio gallery that showcases  projects I have photographed that won  architectural or interior design awards.

It was really a lot of fun to go back through my archives to find the projects and review them once again. I am surprised at how many there are, they just kind of creep up on you.

I only included the seventeen projects that won awards from 1999 through today because I was out of time and the deeper I dig into my archives the less well organized things are, and the documentation becomes difficult to decipher and cross check. I began my conversion to digital photography back in 1998 and since that time my digital asset management has gone through major evolutionary changes. So, I just didn’t see it as worth while to dig throught my digital catacombs in search of files that no longer represent my style or my level of professional expertise.

I am very pleased to see that 2009 was a watershed year for me and my clients. Collectively my clients five ASID design awards this year, and the feather in my cap is that every one of my clients that eneterd the competiton won an award. And Joseph Hittinger of Joseph Hittinger Designs won three awards for projects I photographed for him.

I’m very pleased and look forward to outdoing myself next year.

We all know how important design competitions are, and photographs play a critical role in the presentation of your designs. Throughout my career as an architectural photographer, my clients, both  interior designers and architects, have have used my photographs and consistently won design awards.  I am very glad to see that my track record in helping my clients win professional acclaim is continuing in my new home.

My photographs help my clients win design awards because of my ability to capture the emotional content of the spaces I photograph, my talent for visually communicating the design concept, my use of sophisticated composition, and close collaboration with my clients.

All of these award winning projects were photographed using various forms of the High Dynamic Range Imaging technique I am working with, and the results are impressive. The fact that these HDRI photographs are part of the award winning entries speaks volumes for value of this innovative technique.
